Lucky Gloves Boxing Competition

Zaneville’s Police Athletic League is hosting the 2011 Lucky Gloves Boxing Competition this Saturday, and it’s sure to draw crowds.
There will be 22 matches with boxers traveling in from several states. Featured athletes include Travis Jerig of Zanesville and Jake Harper of Frazeysburg; both have competed at the national level and hold several titles.
"This is a significant fundraiser for our organization because we’re a non-profit, we’re all volunteer and we offer all of our programs totally free," said Coach TJ Hartmeyer.
Jerig and Harper will be competing at the Ohio State Junior Olympics qualified in May for a shot at a national championship. Hartmeyer said this boxing competition won’t be like the kind you see on TV.
"I do professional boxing as well, there are a lot longer rounds, a lot longer times, so they’re use to pacing themselves and amateur boxing it’s get in, get it done and get out," he said.
The gym is located at 804 Pine Street. Tickets will cost $10.00. The first bell will sound at 7 p.m.
