M.I.R.A.C.L.E. Drug Court receives Ohio Supreme Court certification

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Muskingum County Drug Court earned its final certification from the Ohio Supreme Court.
Drug court hopes to prevent further criminal activity by connecting drug users with needed treatment, helpful support, and meetings with Judge Scott Rankin and treatment team. Judge Rankin said Miracles In Recovery And Clean Living Everyday, also called M.I.R.A.C.L.E. Drug Court, helps people find other things to do in life besides using drugs.
“The program is an intensive probation supervision. There going to be subject to random drug testing three times a week. They have to get a job. They have to go through individual and group counseling. They have to attend 12 step meetings. Might be A.A. or N.A. if they choose to do that, but most importantly they have to see me once a week to hold them accountable,” said Judge Rankin.
M.I.R.A.C.L.E’s final certification means it’s now officially recognized by the Ohio Supreme Court to receive grants from the state. Judge Rankin said this will better help serve the community and people who suffer substance abuse.
“A grant from the state of Ohio to help pay for drug treatment for people that are involved in the program. We’ve got a crisis. The opioid epidemic has hit Muskingum County and all over the country and we need to do something to stop the revolving door at the jail,” said Judge Rankin.
M.I.R.A.C.L.E. Court was created back in May of 2016. Since it started there have been two successful graduates from the program. The program lasts at least a year. People often receive M.I.R.A.C.L.E. as part of a jail sentence to help aid people in getting and staying clean of drugs.
