Man Falls from Court House Roof
A man is fighting for his life after falling more than 50 feet off the roof of the Guernsey County Courthouse and landing on concrete.
Guernsey County Sheriff Mike McCauley said it happened just before 9 o’clock Thursday morning. 38-year-old Keith Casto of Marion was working to repair the roof of the court house when he fell.
"This individual was on the roof, was wearing a safety vest but was not roped in," explained McCauley.
McCauley said before falling it appears Casto was holding onto a decorative rail for support. When the rail snapped Casto fell down the roof, hit the spouting, where he then bounced off a car parked beneath and landed on the curb.
"Obviously a fall of that magnitude there’s going to be serious injuries," emphasized McCauley.
Casto was flown by medical helicopter to Grant Medical Center in Columbus and is listed in critical condition. The Sheriff said construction was post-poned for the rest of the day. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the accident and will determine when the work will resume.
