What started as an idea to create scented candles for men became a charity for the hungry.
Hart Main of Marysville came up with the idea in 2010. He wanted smells that men would like, freshly cut grass, gun powder and bacon. Hart wanted to put the candles in a unique container and after eating dinner one night he came up with the perfect idea not knowing it would turn into something bigger.
"I guess we didn’t want a glass jar like all the other girlie scented candles and so we grabbed a soup can from dinner that night before and when we started selling so many candles we had to find a way to get more soup cans, so we decided to go to soup kitchens and donate there," said Hart.
In the past year hart has donated over 30,000 cans of soup to kitchens across Ohio and West Virginia. Christ’s Table being one of them. Hart’s mother and father have fully supported his idea. Going to the soup kitchens and seeing how they’re helping has been eye-opening for their family.
"That’s been what continues to keep us going. It’s been just a really neat experience and you meet people who’ve really dedicated their lives to helping those less fortunate," said Hart’s father, Craig.
