“March for Vets” Supports Service Men and Women
Veteran’s Day is just less than a week away. One local vet is starting a new tradition to show support for our men and women in uniform.
Army veteran, Justin Smith, is inviting the community to join him in his “March for Vets,” which is an effort to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Supporters will begin marching at the VFW post on Putnam Avenue, and will continue their strides until they reach Colony Square Mall.
“The last couple of years, I’ve been wanting to do something to help out anyway I could,” Smith said. “We’ll start at the VFW at 8:00 a.m. and we’ll march down Moxahala, across 6th Street Bridge, up Main Street, across the Y-Bridge, then up Linden, then up to Maple Avenue and up to the mall.”
Smith, a Zanesville native, joined the Army Reserve in 2003 and served in the armed forces for nine years. He said supporters can join in the walk at anytime, and donations are encouraged along the way. All proceeds will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.
“I was actually just going to march from Duncan Falls to the mall, and if anyone saw me they could donate, but when I posted about it, everybody in the community was interested, so I decided to do an organization thing of it, and try to get more money raised, and then donate to the Wounded Warrior Project,” Smith said.
If you can’t make the march and wish to donate, you can contact Justin Smith, at 740-891-0006.
