Market Street Baptist Church Celebrates 190 Years
ZANESVILLE, Ohio–Renovations and celebrations are underway at Market Street Baptist Church in Zanesville.
The church’s historic 120-year-old Tiffany-stained glass windows were recently sent out for restoration. This past week, the two large centerpiece windows were reinstalled after undergoing a specialized refiring process in Arizona.
“They’re over 120 years old and they usually only last about 100 so we’ve been very fortunate, we sent the two away approximately 6 months ago. The two large ones are back, now we’ve taken out the lower ones and we’re getting them refurbished also,” Missions Chairman Susan Stotts said.
The restoration comes just in time for a major milestone. On Saturday, May 17th, Market Street Baptist Church will celebrate its 190th anniversary.
“190 years! Market street Baptist Church was formed in the Market House which is now the city building. Then we were given the land and a house that was on this property in 1837, but 1835 is our founding, so 190 years. We’re having a dinner on Saturday and a program with some old pictures and telling of the history,” Stotts added.
The celebration will also recognize the church’s oldest and youngest members, along with two individuals celebrating 50 years of membership. Organizers hope to see past, present, and future members come together for an evening of fellowship and reflection.
