ZANESVILLE, OH- The Maysville High School Band is preparing to perform at the Rhodes State Office Tower in Columbus. The band was specially invited alongside other music programs in the state to attend on Monday, December 18 at 11 a.m.

The band also will be having a 5th through 12th grade concert in the high school auditorium at 6:30 p.m. on December 16. The concert is free for anyone to attend.

“The State House performance is kind of tied into our concert, but it’s given them a little more of an extra push and excitement preparing for the concert, so I think they’re just a little more geared up and excited for both of the events, and actually the day after we get back we play a concert for the whole school, so they actually have three performances back, to back, to back,” says The Maysville Band Director of 25 years, Patrick Murphy.

There was high energy during the bands rehearsal today as the students played through an assortment of holiday music that they have been preparing.

“I’ve always loved music, but I joined in 5th grade and I have found a lot of friends that way, my best friend of 11 years, I didn’t meet her in band but we’ve grown way closer through band, you build a really weird dysfunctional family, you fight over stands and different sections and everything, but it’s really just such a cool experience, especially when like we’re doing a Christmas concert where we get to play Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and it’s easily one of my favorite parts of the year, everyone gets super excited about it,” says MacKenzie Mathers, a Senior Clarinet player in the Maysville Band.
