Maysville Boys Basketball Eyeing Another Deep Tournament Run This Year

SOUTH ZANESVILLE, OH

Maysville’s boys high school basketball team is coming off their most successful season in their school’s history. But these Panthers aren’t caught up in the past but eager to pounce on this upcoming season.

“New year, you got to, you got to get guys understand that. But yeah, we got a lot of pieces back that have been in big situations and that’s only going to help out moving forward” said head coach Dave Brown.

Junior guard Gator Nichols added “We don’t really care about last year. We’re going to build on that to know what we can do now and just do the same thing, same things we did last year to try to replicate what we did.”

And they’ll look to replicate last season through hard work and energy.

“When I play hard, I feel like they play hard. We all just kind of feed off of each other, so playing my hardest makes them play their hardest. So I just continue to do that” said junior forward Jordyn Watson.

“You know one of our big focuses defensively is communication. We communicated like crazy, you know, at the end of last year” proclaimed assistant coach Jared Cox. “So that’s just been a big focus for us, just getting our guys to talk to each other on the floor out there.”

Pressure doesn’t always burst pipes. Sometimes it creates diamonds.
“Pressure is a privilege. That’s what Brown likes to say. I don’t really feel pressure, honestly. It’s a privilege. And pressure wasn’t a privilege, then I don’t know what.”
With Gator and Jordyn both being juniors now. Who are some young guys to be their secret weapon?
“Yeah. I mean, you know, you got Gavin Ferguson and Landon Iden and they played a lot of JV basketball last year. They were really good players. They worked really hard. They put a lot of time in” continued Brown. “So, you know, they’ll be they’ll be key for us going forward. You know, we got a lot of guys back, you know, so, yeah, we’ll have 7 or 8 guys we can throw out there that that play really hard and and hopefully shoot the ball really well.

And they, they worked really hard to give themselves a chance, to be good again. So it’s been it’s been a pleasure. You know working with them continuing to try to get better every single day.”

Coach Brown and Coach Cox have one final message heading into the season. “We like working with this group. We’ll see, you know what unfolds. But we’re just trying to get better right now. Every single day. We got a long way to go right now.”

The Maysville Panthers boys basketball team will open up their much anticipated 2024 season, December 3rd at home against Bloom-Carroll.
