Maysville Elementary Hosts First Offsite Family Literacy Night at YMCA

ZANESVILLE, Ohio–Maysville Elementary School hosted its first offsite Family Literacy Night on evening in partnership with the local YMCA, bringing together students, families, and the community for an engaging night centered around literacy and connection.
Families were invited to participate in a variety of activities designed to promote reading in a fun and interactive environment. In addition to literacy-based games and experiences, the YMCA opened its facility for swimming, yoga, kids’ cardio sessions, obstacle courses, and Nerf activities, creating a well-rounded evening of movement and learning.
To further support families, several local food trucks were onsite, offering convenient dinner options so families could focus on spending time together.
The event reflects Maysville Elementary’s ongoing commitment to building strong school-family partnerships and promoting literacy beyond the classroom. By collaborating with the YMCA, the school aimed to remove barriers to participation and create a welcoming, community-centered experience for all families.
School leaders described the night as a successful first step in expanding opportunities for family engagement and fostering a love of reading in creative, accessible ways.
