Maysville Weapons Detectors
SOUTH ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Maysville Local School District approved the purchase of six weapon detectors that will be installed on their campus.
Maysville Schools Superintendent Brian Blum talked about the decision to purchase the detectors and how they will be used.
“This weapons detector discussion started probably last November and with recent developments in the country and a lot more issues happening in the world it became apparent that the board of education would like to implement these to be a very proactive measure to try to ensure our student’s safety as well as our staff,” said Blum.
The portable detectors are battery powered and work much like a retail store shoplifting detector. The estimated cost for all six units is $118,000.
“I’m very proud of the school board for allowing us to do this,” Blum said. “To try to improve our safety for our students and staff and I do think it’s going to make a difference in our safety. Along with other changes that we’ve done over the past three years, I think we’re always looking for ways to improve and this is a huge way to improve our safety of our students and staff.”
The detectors are expected to arrive before November and training should be completed by Thanksgiving. The detectors will be placed at various building entries throughout the facility.
