MCCF holds its 2nd Annual ‘Gear Up’ Summer Academy
The Muskingum County Community Foundation is holding its 2nd Annual ‘Gear Up’ Summer Academy.
Each Thursday, 6th, 7th and 8th grade students from Crooksville travel through Ohio and the surrounding states to participate in various learning activities. Thursday the group visited Zane State College and took a tour of the campus and worked on different science activities.
“Students have participated in activities throughout the school year with our ‘Gear Up’ staff at the school. We thought this would be a great extension of the program to kind of get them off campus and see different campuses across Ohio that we may not be able to attend and visit throughout the school year but, also to be able to do a lot more hands on enrichment activities to expose the students to so many different opportunities,” said Heather Davis, ‘Gear Up’ Site Director.
Sarah Stalter of Crooksville said this is her first year to be involved in the summer ‘Gear Up’ academy and told us she would like to leave the program with a better understanding in planning for her future.
“By the end of the summer I want to know that I know more stuff on how to get into colleges and how I can get accepted and what I need for college,” said Stalter.
Organizers said by having the academy for middle school students it will in return help them to be more engaged when they are high school.
