MCLS Gears Up for Winter Reading Challenge
ZANESVILLE, OH – The Muskingum County Library System is getting ready to challenge readers this winter.
The Library’s 2024 Winter Reading Challenge kicked off on December 1st and will go until Jan. 31st.
Alyssa Fischer, the Assistant Teen Librarian, said if you participated in the Summer Reading Challenge, this is just like that.
She said the reason they host this challenge is to help people find alternate ways to distract themselves from the hustle and bustle of the holidays.
“We realize that winter is also a time where you might feel, kind of like the stress of the holidays and you might just want an excuse to sit back with a book and read,” Fischer said. “It helps kids when they’re on winter vacation to have a reason to read.”
Some of the incentives you can work towards are two, cozy baskets filled with goodies as well as a Nintendo Switch Lite with the brand new Legends of Zelda game.
Fischer said the Winter Reading Challenge is open to all ages and is a great way to spend some well deserved downtime with your family.
“The Winter Reading Challenge actually started just for adults because we had our bags that we would give out with the mystery books inside,” Fisher said. “We decided to include everyone, just like our Summer Reading Challenge, it’s also for everyone. We just want to make sure it’s equal all around, everyone has the chance to participate, and win something.”
If you are interested in participating in the Winter Reading Challenge, you can sign up on the Beanstack app or by heading to the Library’s website.
