MCLS Summer Reading Halfway Mark
ZANESVILLE, OH – It’s hard to believe but we’ve hit the halfway point for the Muskingum County Library System’s Summer Reading Challenge.
Summer reading may have only started a month ago but Suzanne Helms, the Library Operations Manager, said there are some pretty exciting updates.
Helms says so far, 2,482 people have registered for Summer Reading and almost 10,000 books have been read. She says the total time spent reading is 1,201,582 minutes.
“Summer Reading is a lot of fun. We have a lot of great activities, we have a weekly bingo for kids, teens, and adults so the kids can show up at any branch and look for the sticker of the week there,” Helms said. “Or if you are an adult or teen, we have genre based bingo where you read different genres, try new things, you get a sticker each time you do.”
Helms said you can then take your completed bingo sheet and turn it in to be entered into another prize that will be given out at the end of summer reading.
She also said some of the bigger programs they’ve hosted, like the Ohio Performance Dogs, have been a great success and are looking forward to hosting more after July 4th.
“We’ve got great stuff coming up, George Washington, we are partnered with Muskingum 250 on July 9th at the Presbyterian Church over in the Putnam District, that’s going to be a really great event and we hope for a good turn out, that will be at 6PM,” Helms said. “Then we’ve got family programs, Ballet Storytime. BalletMet has sent us a ballerina and she’s going to read a storytime and a little bit of an exposé, show some skills to the kids, see what that’s like and we also have Professor Tony with his Tricks in Technicolor.”
If you still haven’t signed up for summer reading, you can by heading to the Library’s website.
If you’ve already done some reading this summer and forgot to log it, you still can by using the Beanstack app.
