MCLS to Host Guiding Light Program

NEW CONCORD, OH – The Muskingum County Library System is getting ready to take you to the stars and beyond this holiday season.

MCLS will be hosting their program “Guiding Light: The Legend of the Christmas Star” on Friday, Dec. 6th from 4:30 to 5:30PM at the New Concord Branch.

Sean Fennell, the Marketing and Community Relations Director, said this program will delve into the historical, mythological, and astronomical perspectives of this iconic holiday season symbol.

He also said the presentation will feature a special guest speaker from the Zanesville Astronomy Club, Irene Baron.

“We’re very fortunate enough to have Irene Baron, who is an expert in this field, locally and we like to be able to use the talents of the folks that we have here,” Fennell said. “And bring them to all different types of locations throughout our area so we are very fortunate enough to have Irene, here and local. Being able to utilize our local talents is just something we always want to do when we’re looking at programming.”

Fennell said this program is open to all ages, so the whole family can join in on the astronomy fun.

He said participants will be able to discover new perspectives of the Christmas Star with Baron’s over 30 years of Astronomy knowledge.

“You’re able to look at this really symbolic thing, this concept that has really been, it’s literally a symbol of the holiday season, The Christmas Star,” Fennell said. “And then get to look at it from maybe some perspectives that you haven’t heard about yet. I know that Irene had spent quite a few years tracking and finding the actual Christmas Star through using NASA technology. So there’s a lot of really, I don’t know, some very cool information about a very timely topic.”

Registration is required for this event.
