MCLS to Host Teddy Bear Tea Party

ZANESVILLE, OH – The Muskingum County Library System is inviting kiddos and their stuffed animals to a tea party.

MCLS will be hosting their second Teddy Bear Tea Party on Tuesday, August 12th at 4PM at the Roseville Branch Library.

Katie Merritt, the Youth Services Manager, says the tea party was such a hit last time that they decided to bring it back.

“We tried this before, before summer and we’re doing it again because a lot of people couldn’t come. They were asking, ‘Please have it again.’, so we are.” Merritt said. “But a lot of kids don’t have tea parties, so when we did it the last time, one little girl had never had a tea party before. So to be able to be able to do this with them and provide them with a tea party is really exciting. That you kind of get to make memories with them and then it also helps them kind of relate, say ‘I remember this time when I was at the Library we had a tea party!’”

Merritt says at the tea party, you’ll be served tea cookies as well as your choice of tea or juice.

There will also be a story time with the stuffed animals and tons of activities for everyone to enjoy.

Merritt says this program isn’t just about making memories for these kids, it’s also giving them some important skills.

“Pretend play is important for children and their development with their imagination and that gets them kind of really into reading because those imaginations grow.” Merritt said. “Then also with teddy bears, we’ve learned that children are sometimes nervous to read and so they might not want to read with their parents because they might feel pressured or they just don’t want to make a mistake. So with a teddy bear, they’re not going to judge you, they’re not going to make fun of you because you got the word yellow wrong.”

Registration is required for this event, just so they know how many cups and snacks to provide.

To register or for more information, you can head to the Library’s website.
