Meet Leia: This Weeks Dog of the Week

ZANESVILLE, OH – Dog of the week has returned at the Muskingum County K9 adoption center!

This week, we feature a sweet girl named Leia, who has been at the adoption center for 549 days after arriving as a stray. She is spayed, loves children, loves to cuddle, and enjoys playtime in the yard.

“Leia has been with us since May of 2023, at no fault of her own. She seems to love people, gets along well with kids, and doesn’t mind cats. She is dog selective but just seems to love to go for walks and be around anybody, just makes for a great home,” K9 Adoption Center Volunteer Doug McQuaid said.

Leia is 3 years old and has been at the adoption center since May 19th, 2023, making her the longest resident there. The K9 adoption center would love to find Leia a home just in time for this holiday season.

“I think she just basically got overlooked when it comes to the reason why she’s been here this long and she’s just basically looking for a forever home. Especially for the holidays, she already missed last year’s holidays by being here, and we’re trying to make sure that that doesn’t happen this year,” McQuaid said.

If you have another dog, the center encourages you to bring them in for a meeting to help them get acquainted. While looking to adopt a furry friend, it is important to remember that adjustment and decompression periods are required. Please extend grace and courtesy to your new four-legged pal while they get situated in their new environment.

The K9 Adoption Center is also hosting A Storybook Christmas auction event at the veterans building on Sunday, December 8th from noon-5p.m. There will be activities, food, and drinks as well as family-friendly activities. If you have questions about the event, contact the adoption center or email Aconrad@OhioMuskingumsheriff.org.
