ZANESVILLE, OH – This week’s Animal Shelter Society Pet of the Week has a heart of gold.

Meet Samson! Samson is a 2-year-old coonhound mix, who’s neutered, up to date on his vaccines, and is searching for his perfect family.

April Gibson, the Executive Director, said Samson would do best with a family that has some room for him to run around and explore.

She also said due to his age and high energy, he would do better with children ages 10 and older.

“It wasn’t a sad case, it was an owner that had to make that decision to surrender Samson,” Gibson said. “[He’s] selective with other dogs, I don’t think Samson was around a lot of other dogs, so selective. Of course, you know how it works here, you fill out the application, bring in your animal for a meet and greet, your dog, and we’re just going to make sure it’s a good fit.”

Gibson was also happy to announce that the Shelter is gearing up for its second annual Pickleball 4 Paws fundraising event.

She said it will take place at Riverside Park on Saturday, May 31st from 8AM to 3PM.

“There is a rain location, not a rain date, we’ve already got that planned for the Y, just keep an eye on that,” Gibson said. “You can reach out to Adam Agin or myself here at the Shelter to do the sponsors and get those teams together. It’s a lot of fun and again it helps our 100% non-profit organization, those funds go towards taking care of animals, like Samson.”

Gibson also wanted to remind pet owners that if you haven’t gotten your animal microchipped yet, next month is the perfect opportunity to do so.

She said beginning on Wednesday, April 2nd, and going all month long, they will be hosting Liyla’s Microchip Special to honor the sweet reunion we covered earlier this week.
