Meet Thatcher! This Week’s Dog of the Week

ZANESVILLE, OH – This week’s Dog of the Week is the biggest sweetheart at the Muskingum County K-9 Adoption Center.

Meet Thatcher! He is a 5-year-old cattle dog mix who’s been at the Adoption Center since August of 2023. He is neutered, up to date on his vaccinations, and is ready to find his forever family.

Doug McQuaid, a Volunteer at the K-9 Adoption Center, said Thatcher’s favorite thing is to get all of the pets and affection he can.

“He loves to be hugged on and given affection to,” McQuaid said. “He’s just that type of dog and he seems to really absorb that. That really calms him down, so maybe someone who could sit there beside him just to have some companionship, that is what truly, he’s looking for.”

McQuaid also wants pet owners to be aware of the severe weather and the toll it can take on your furry friends. He said the thunderstorms and lighting, to the animals, is like a sky full of fireworks on the 4th of July. He also said most animals’ first response to all the chaos is to run, which could result in them getting loose. McQuaid said it’s a good idea to make your dog a safe and quite place in your home that they can go to when bad weather hits.

“We always want to make sure our dogs are secure and have adequate shelter,” McQuaid said. “If there’s any way possible that you could make a spot for them in the house or garage while the storm is actually going on.”

The K-9 Adoption Center also currently has dog food available if you are in need. If you are interested in adopting Thatcher or picking up some food, you can head to the Adoption Center’s website for more information.
