Memorial golf outing registration open
Two fire departments are banding together to honor one of their fallen brothers.
After suffering an injury in a December of 2013 structure fire, South Zanesville fireman Dick Guss lost his life. Now, to honor his memory, the South Zanesville and Newton Township Fire Departments are having the 2nd Annual Dick Guss Memorial Golf Outing. Lieutenant Russell Taylor shares why Guss was so important to the departments.
“Anytime the pager went off, seven days a week, 24 hours a day, he was there, first one,” he said. “You could always count on him being there on time and tragically he lost his life after a structure fire that we had. And he’s been greatly missed since.”
There are 17 teams currently registered, but Taylor said there is a cap of 36. To register you can contact either the South Zanesville or Newton Township Fire Departments or Eaglesticks Golf Club.
“It’s a big fellowship,” Taylor said. “It brings us together, it just something that we just need. Just have a good time, we tee off at 9:00 o’clock on May 9th. There will be great food, great entertainment. Have a great time.”
The proceeds from the outing will benefit the two fire departments and also the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
