Mid-East to Host Kindergarten Celebration
ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Area students about to enter Kindergarten have an opportunity to get a head start on their educational journey.
Each summer, the Muskingum County Families & Children First Council hold their ‘Kindergarten Celebration’ school supply giveaway at Mid-East Career and Technology Center.
“I love the fact that we’re doing this for the kids. The whole point is to make sure the kids are ready for Kindergarten. And they take a lot of time. We… We’ve been planning this for months and sitting down and thinking through what these kids need. We… There’ll be a school bus on site even, for these kids to do a trial run on a school bus. I think it’s great for the kids to engage with each of the community partners. They’ll be giving out school supplies at each desk for the kids. It just helps the kids be ready to go outside of the home to school,” Muskingum County Families and Children First Council Representative Rebecca Hennessy said.
The event is also sponsored by: The Muskingum County Literacy Council, the Health Department, Jobs and Family Services, the MRDD and SEAT. The program is aimed at Kindergarteners entering Bishop Fenwick, Maysville, Tri-Valley, West Muskingum and the Zanesville City Schools.
“At Mid-East, it is around back, because it’s in their new gymnasium. They can expect, don’t wait ‘til the minute, cause they could expect a long line. We have as you can tell, five different schools. So we have a lot of Kindergarteners. When a Kindergartener walks in with their family, they’ll learn and find out who the administrator is from their school district. They’ll welcome them there. The principal will be there. They will then give them a cinch bag to be able to put all their supplies in,” Muskingum County Literacy Council Community Liaison Cindy Lawyer said.
South East Area Transit will be offering transportation to the event but commuters must schedule their ride by calling SEAT at (740) 454-8573 Option 1, before Friday. The event will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. this Saturday, August 2nd, in the Mid-East Gymnasium located at 400 Richards Road in Zanesville.
