WHIZ’s Military Salute

ZANESVILLE, Ohio–WHIZ’s summer-long Military Salute is back, and submissions are now open.

The tradition serves as a season-wide tribute to honor those who have served across all branches of the military.

“It started a number of years ago, we wanted to honor veterans, and anyone involved in the military, any branch and we want to honor them all summer long,” WHIZ General Manager Jay Benson said.

Benson says days like Memorial Day, Juneteenth, the 4th of July and other key dates throughout the summer offer the perfect moments to reflect on America, and the importance of honoring its military heroes.

“I have sons that serve, I have nephews that serve, and I see the sacrifices they make, the time away from family, even on a 3-day holiday, there’s no time off for a veteran when they’re deployed so it means a lot to us to be able to continue to do that,” Benson added.

All submitted photos will be featured on whiznews.com. Participants are asked to submit one photo per veteran, but they can honor multiple individuals. On September 11th, eight recipients will be chosen to receive a special recognition along with a flag from the Annin Flag Company in Coshocton.
