Miracle League Invitational

Two communities unite to give special needs children a chance to play ball.

The Muskingum Valley Miracle League hosted a baseball invitational on Saturday afternoon. A team from Wheeling traveled in for the event.

"This is for anybody in southeastern ohio, so it’s not just muskingum county, and its anybody with a disability that would prohibit them for playing in a regulation baseball program," said Cara Beth Legats, President of the Musking Valley Miracle League.

The Wheeling team says it’s interested in using the design of the field which is handicap accessible. Many of the parents say this gives their children a chance to do something they wouldn’t ordinarily do.

"And giving these kids independence, you know besides being able to play ball you know if the’yre waiting to play, they can go to the concession stand on their own, and go to the restroom on their own, you know if they’re old enough, you’re giving them independence," said Lorraine McCardle, President of the Wheeling Miracle League.

Miracle League of Muskingum Valley also hosts baseball games for adults as well as field trips for special education classes.
