Muckdogs finish runner-up at Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The 12-under Muskingum County Muckdogs showed up on a big stage, finishing second at The Youth Baseball Nationals.

The Muckdogs enjoyed a sizzling hot start in pool play, outscoring opponents 53-19 and posting a 4-1 record. Following an off day on Tuesday, Muskingum County reeled off back-to-back wins over teams from Georgia and North Carolina to advance to the semifinals. The Muckdogs then upset the defending champions from Rhode Island, 5-0, to punch a ticket to the championship.

Muskingum County dropped a tough decision in the title game to Warriors Baseball, 6-4, but not before making their mark on a national stage.

"We represented small town America," coach Todd Whiteman said. "So proud of them. Not bad for Muskingum County."
