Multi-Vehicle Accident Claims the Life of a Newark Man

GRANVILLE Ohio – Troopers from the Granville Post of the State Highway Patrol are investigating a fatal crash that involved multiple vehicles.
It happened on Thursday, September 17, shortly after 6:30 am. on State Route 37 near Blacks Road in Union Township.
Authorities said a 2024 Mazda CX-5, driven by Lori Vest, age 44, of Newark was southbound on SR 37 and was stopped in traffic near Blacks Road. A 2026 Toyota Tundra, driven by James Jones, age 55, of Newark was southbound on SR 37. A 2003 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Todd Clark, age 64, of Newark was southbound on SR 37. A Ram 4500, driven by Jonathon Miller, age 19, of Millersburg was southbound on SR 37. A 2016 Mack GU, driven by Levi Jones, age 23, of Newark was northbound on SR 37.
According to the OSHP, a chain reaction rear-end crash was initiated between the vehicles traveling southbound and the Mack GU struck one of the vehicles that was pushed into the northbound lane.
James Jones of Newark was taken to Licking Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The other drivers involved in the accident suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
