NEW CONCORD, Ohio – Muskingum University hosted its annual Move-In Day, for freshman and transfer students, to kick off their Welcome Weekend activities.

Muskingum University President Dr. Sue Hasseler shared the importance of the university’s Welcome Weekend and the role it plays in the lives of the students, their families and the university.

“So we have an entire Welcome Weekend for our students who are coming in for classes. And that Welcome Weekend includes this experience of moving into your residence, which is huge for those students who have chosen that residential experience, right. Fitting everything into the room is always a very fascinating piece of it. But also being welcomed by this community that says we want you here, we’re ready to go, we’re going to have a great experience,” Hasseler said.

Many of the traditional activities are organized by the administration and carried out by upperclassmen, to give incoming students an opportunity to orient themselves with the campus and acquaint themselves with the many others who’ve chosen to make Muskingum their alma mater.

“So, Welcome Weekend starts of course with Move-In and a lot of us are just here to make sure everything runs smoothly. We want people to get in and get out and get going and also take the stress off the parents. We really want that to be important. And then after this we’ll have the convocation and then each one of us takes a different event. And we’re just here to make sure that things run smoothly for Welcome Weekend, especially for the First-Year’s, because this is a really important time on campus,” Welcome Weekend Coordinator and Muskingum University Senior Gracie Campbell said.

Offering a hands-on orientation experience is one of the benefits that choosing a small university can provide and count as one of many personal touches that have made Muskingum the university of choice for generations of families.
