Muskingum Behavioral Health Recaps Drug Drop Off Day

Muskingum Behavioral Health

ZANESVILLE, Ohio-Muskingum Behavioral Health worked in conjunction with the Muskingum County Health Services Department, Sheriff’s Office and Genesis Hospitals to have a drug take back day this past Saturday.

Over 180 cars dropped off prescription drugs to be safely disposed of. Behavioral Health executive director Steve Carrel says the benefit went even further than just prescription pills.

“One of the things we find with the drug take back day with the Health Department is we get a lot of sharps. A lot of needles, a lot of diabteic supplies, stuff like that. We actually had over twelve of those great big red boxes for those sharps, people don’t know where to get rid of them and stuff so it’s our take back day that they use.”

The main goal is to get expired medications and opiates out of people’s homes to be safely disposed of. If you missed the take back day you can still safely dispose of these medications.

“Anybody that wants to get rid of their medications, they can go to the sheriff’s office on 4th street. Just go into the lobby, tell the dispatcher that’s there what you’re there for, and there’s a box, a safe, that you can put it in. It is my understanding that all Northside Pharmacies have receptacles for medications to get them off the streets.”

Another drug take back day is planned to take place in April.
