Muskingum County, OH- The Muskingum County Arts Council is launching a free interactive event for young children this month.

The newer nonprofit organization in the community serves as an umbrella for local artists and art organizations, providing better access to available resources.

“The Sounds of Wind and Water” is set for  at 3:30 p.m. at Walter Hall on the Muskingum University campus. The free, one-hour program, led by Muskingum University music student Macy Morgan, helps kindergartners and first-graders discover the sounds of wind and water through music. It’s sponsored by the Straker Foundation. Registration is required due to limited spots.

“I’m hoping that the impact is people realize that we’re here for everybody of all ages, and not just artists who are already established, and it’s open to everyone who is interested in doing art at all, and not just visual art but performing art and all of it is for everyone,” said Muskingum County Arts Council Program Associate Kailyn Shalosky.

The council has more events planned, including 3-D ceramics on the theme of fire and earth, plus programs centered on dance and painting. To help make future events a success, they’re seeking volunteers.

“We are looking for volunteers at the moment, we don’t have any volunteer slots that we’re particularly in need of, but we are always looking for volunteers, for people to help us with certain events, we’re currently just at one and a half staff, so we could use a lot of help just in general,” said Muskingum County Arts Council Executive Director Joshua Prentice.
