ZANESVILLE, Ohio – May is the month that the nation celebrates older Americans.

The Muskingum County Center for Seniors is taking part in this celebration by making sure their older adults’ voices are heard. The theme this year is ‘aging out loud,’ and Ann Combs, the Executive Director, said they’re encouraging their seniors to talk about the benefits and difficulties of aging for a video project.

“We are video taping our seniors and asking them a little bit about what it’s like to become a senior, said Combs. We’ll ask them about the benefits, how difficult it is, and how the Center for Seniors impacts their lives.”

They are working to get 50 seniors to take part in the video, with hopes that they can advocate for older Americans to federal, state, and local officials about how much funding impacts their lives.

“Often, during the aging process, we feel like we don’t have a job, we are shrinking away, and we don’t have a purpose in life, said Combs. They very much do and this is an opportunity for them to exercise that right to use their voice and speak about what their needs are.”

When the video is finished, check it out on the Muskingum County Center for Senior’s Facebook page and their website mccfs.org.
