Muskingum Co. Commissioners meet with Humanities and Arts Council

ZANESVILLE, OH – The Muskingum County Commissioners met with members of the Muskingum County Humanities and Arts Council.

The meeting was to discuss funding for establishing a board and director for the Arts Council.

Kristy Szemetylo, a Member of the Muskingum County Humanities and Arts Council, talked about the council and what they plan to do in and around our area.

“It was created to create a stronger collaboration between all of the art entities within Muskingum County and its County wide, not just a Zanesville initiative.,” Szemetylo said. “To provide more opportunities to attract businesses to the area by creating a vibrant community for those of us who live here.”

Kelly Ashby, another Member of the Humanities and Arts Council, said a council like this will help to boost many areas in our community.

“It’s definitely an economic impact, that is for those Counties. When you talk about the arts and when you talk about coming in for concerts, coming in for live music, coming in for programming workshops, classes. That all makes for a wonderful vibrant community,” Ashby said. “Quite honestly, our families that reside here deserve that, but also it provides us the opportunity to market Muskingum County as an Arts Destination. Which our artists also deserve, so it’s just a win-win for the community.”

The newly formed board for the Muskingum County Humanities and Arts Council will meet to discuss their next steps at the beginning of May.
