Muskingum County Dog Pound to Construct New Facility

The Muskingum County Dog Pound is working to construct a new facility.

The project is still in planning stages and those involved are requesting the Muskingum County Commissioner’s financial support. The county will provide the property but commissioners must review the budget before making financial commitments. The new facility would include 60 kennels meaning a much more sanitary place for pups to stay while they await adoption.

“Our facility is quite old,” said Volunteer Doug McQuaid. “They did do a remodel in 1995 and that was a little bit in the back but our drainage, our sanitation, our ventilation, the well being and welfare of the animals, is just is just not really up to what it should be for our purposes and that is a big factor. ”

The group of volunteers are also seeking non-profit status and have had a discussion with the Muskingum County Community Foundation about getting the project off the ground and they will soon plan fundraisers to start earning money to begin construction. Until then, McQuaid said you can always stop by and spend quality time with the dogs and provide non-monetary donations to the current facility.

“There’s many ways you can help,” said McQuaid.”Right now basically we haven’t taken any financial money on but we have taken the general welfare of the dogs from toys to blankets to bedding to boxes, to treats, anything that would pertain specifically to the dogs themselves. ”

The new facility will also include a name change to encourage the public to adopt canines.
