Muskingum County Domestic Violence Coalition Gearing up for “Walk A Mile in My Shoes”

ZANESVILLE, OH – A local organization is getting ready to strut their stuff while bringing awareness to domestic violence.
The Muskingum County Domestic Violence Coalition is gearing up to host their 10th annual “Walk A Mile in My Shoes” event on October 7th from 5 to 7PM.
Dorothy Thomas, the Chairperson for Walk a Mile In My Shoes, says they already have a lot of teams signed up to walk around the courthouse, but the highly anticipated part of the night is the Celebrity Walkers.
“We’ll have what people come to watch, which is our Celebrity Walkers, of course,” Thomas said. “Where the men will walk in women’s shoes and the women will walk in men’s shoes across the red carpet.”
The night will also feature a live auction, food, a 50/50 drawing, and a speech from a domestic violence survivor.
There will also be prizes awarded for the Best Strut, Most Unique, and Best of Show to the Celebrity Walkers.
Thomas says the goal of this event is to show community members what it’s really like to walk in another person’s shoes.
“I think it’s important for people to understand how hard it is to walk in somebody else’s shoes.” Thomas said. “I think this kind of gets the point across, when they have to go and pick out the shoes, then actually wear them, and then suffer the hurt afterwards from wearing them, to understand what victims go through.”
