Muskingum County Domestic Violence Coalition to Host Event for Sexual Assault Awareness
ZANESVILLE, OH – April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and the Muskingum County Domestic Violence Coalition is making sure survivors know they’re not alone.
The coalition is hosting an event called “Speak Up: No More Secrets” to raise awareness about sexual assault and to give the community a chance to learn, support, and speak out.
“We want to get awareness out to the community that there’s way more sexual assault going on. It could be a family friend, it could be a teacher, it could be somebody you work with, or somebody that has power and control over you.” Domestic Violence Coalition Chairperson Dorothy Thomas said.
The event will take place at the Zane State Campus Center and will include guest speakers, along with food and water provided for attendees.
“We will have plenty of food there. We hope that more people will come to it, victims maybe, and see that there is help out there. Talking to people about it and talking out about it. I was a victim of sexual assault at 4 years old. It took me years to be able to talk about it. I think people need to understand that it’s still there and it affects your whole life,” Thomas said.
Speak Up: No More Secrets” will be held on Thursday, April 10th from 11:30 A.M. to 1:30 P.M.
