Gathering for Sexual Assault Awareness

ZANESVILLE, OH – The Zane State campus center will hold a Sexual Assault Awareness Event on Thursday, April 11th, from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM.

Presented by the Muskingum County Domestic Violence Coalition, this important gathering is open to the public and aims to shed light on the impacts of sexual assault while offering support to victims and survivors.

“It’s important because I think the community needs to understand that sexual assault is something that people don’t want to talk about. It happens more frequent than most people realize. In my family alone, I counted up one time when I became an advocate for sexual assault, over 20 people in my family have been raped or abused,” Legal Advocate for Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, Dorothy Thomas said.

Attendees will have the opportunity to listen to powerful stories and insights, including those from a sexual assault survivor, aiming to educate a supportive community. The event will also feature food and drinks for all participants.

“This year, we’re having a male victim speak. He’s an older person and he’s going to talk about how he was raped when he was young with that resulting in him becoming an alcoholic,” Thomas said.

This is an opportunity for individuals to come together and show their support for survivors of sexual assault and take a stand against violence.
