ZANESVILLE, OH – The Muskingum County Genealogical Society is celebrating a big milestone this year!

This year marks 50 years in the community for the Genealogical Society and currently there are 3 living Charter members out of the original 51, still helping to connect people with their past.

“We’re having an awards banquet this fall, October 17th and we’ll have a celebration going on then.” Rose Ellen Jenkins, A Charter Member and Lineage Chairmen, said. “We’re honoring presidents, the history, we’ve kept scrapbooks through the years.”

The Genealogical Society is located on the Second Floor of the John McIntire Library and is filled with things like years books, family history books, and so much more.

Trudy Joseph, Another Charter Member, says it’s amazing the things you can find out about your family history if you just do a little digging like she did.

“What is so funny, is that the 3rd [Charter] person and myself, we share the same great grandparents.” Joseph said. “It’s amazing how many people say, well I didn’t know they were a cousin of mine!”

If you are interested in attending the Genealogical Society’s Awards Banquet on the 17th, Jenkins says she needs your reservations by this weekend.
