Muskingum County Investments
The Muskingum County Commissioners got their third quarter investment report today.
County Treasurer Phil Murphy says they have several different types of investments and each of those investments carries a different risk.
"It’s important to the county that we minimize risk whenever we can. So we want to invest in different types of instruments in order to meet not only risk requirements but also income requirements," says County Treasurer Phil Murphy.
Murphy says the money they currently have is invested in CD’s at Century, National, and Huntington banks and the majority is at Huntington and will be maturing by the year’s end.
Murphy tells WHIZ when the economy took the down turn it really effected rate of return on those cd’s.
"Yes it drastically effects the income that the county received and that directly effects what the commissioners can do," Murphy explains.
