Muskingum County Juvenile Detention Center to get New Security Camera System

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The Muskingum County Juvenile Detention Center met with the county commissioners today to decide on a bid to replace and add to the center’s current camera security system.

The analog clocks were installed in 2001 when the center was first built and could only retain up to 30 days worth of video. These new cameras will not only be better quality but also be able to hold up to 180 days of footage. 

“The analog cameras at this point, they’re 21 years old. The clarity and what you can do with them, this is going to be a big upgrade in that sense,” Allen Bennett, Superintendent of Muskingum County Juvenile Detention Center stated.

Replacing and adding to the juvenile detention center’s security camera network improves the safety and security of the center, its employees, and its residents.

“It gives us better coverage to be able to see everything throughout the facility and outside the building. I think there’s going to be about ten new outside cameras in areas that we didn’t have cameras before,” Bennett said.

The cost of replacing the center’s cameras will be funded partially with a grant from the state of Ohio covering 60% of the bill while Muskingum County will be paying the remaining portion of the nearly $97,000 project.
