Muskingum County K-9 Adoption Center Dog of the Week; Meet Poppy

ZANESVILLE, OH – This Week’s Dog of the Week came all the way from Texas and is now on the hunt for her forever family.
Meet Poppy! She’s a 2-year-old terrier mix who’s spayed, keeps a clean kennel, and has come a long way to find a place she calls home.
Doug McQuaid, a Volunteer at the K-9 Adoption Center, says they found out that Poppy had originally been adopted back in May of 2025 down in Texas.
“In some way she made it to Ohio, someone actually found her walking around through our county and brought her into us.” McQuaid said. “We found out she doesn’t know a stranger, she knows multiple commands, she’s very intelligent. Will sit, stay, takes treats very well, loves to go for walks, good on a leash. Her very favorite thing, I think, to do is, she loves to play fetch!”
McQuaid says they also have had an influx of dogs coming into the Adoption Center without being reclaimed.
He says if your pup is missing, to give them a call to see if they have found your furry friend.
“Stop by, give us a call, we’d love to be able to help you if that happens to be the case.” McQuaid said. “Give us a description, maybe where the dog was lost, and we’re always looking for volunteers because with the new dogs coming in, we don’t really know anything about them. We always like when our possible adopters that are coming here, we have answers for their questions.”
