Muskingum County needs Representation on Ohio Children’s Trust Fund Council
The Ohio Children’s Trust Fund is regionalizing the state in order to create statewide standards to disperse funds. Muskingum County will join 7 other counties to become the ‘Eastern Ohio Region’
In order to advocate for the needs of those in Muskingum County, the Muskingum County Commissioners must have two representatives join the Ohio Children’s Trust Fund Council. Thasia Schilling with Family and Children First said failing to appoint these representatives could leave the county empty handed and unable to serve families in need of help preventing neglect and abuse.
"We could lose a lot of funding and currently the programs that are funding are boot camps for new dads and a parents as teachers group programming and if we don’t have someone appointed those dollars have a risk of not coming back to this area which would mean we would lose both of those very good programs that we’re currently doing," said Schilling.
Muskingum County Family and Children First Council will announce the open positions to employees at a meeting next Wednesday in order to give those interested in taking on the three year commitment, a chance to volunteer.
"We’d like to have a commitment first, or a volunteer that is willing to do that and has the capability however we know that everybody in the community will do what they need to do to make this work," said Schilling.
The commissioners will receive recommendations and make their appointments accordingly.
