Muskingum County Opens Roadwork Bids
ZANESVILLE, OH – Muskingum County drivers can expect a smoother ride soon! The County Commissioners and the County Engineer’s Office met today to open bids for this year’s road resurfacing projects.
The bid opening included three resurfacing projects across the county, ranging from Dresden Road to Fernbank Road. Engineers received proposals from three companies: The Shelly Company, Shelly & Sands, and NLS Paving. Each company submitted bids for repairing a list of county and township roads, with project estimates varying from around $800,000 to over $1.3 million.
“We’re going to be putting an asphalt resurface down. So, about an inch and a half of asphalt will be an overlay over top of the existing asphalt in most instances. For some, we’ll have to add a little bit extra just to touch up some bad spots on the road or we’ll have to reduce the asphalt on the curb and make sure we match up the curbs appropriately,” County Engineer Mark Eicher said.
Roads like John Glenn School Road, Old River Road, and even neighborhood streets like Summerwood Court and Chapel Hill Road are all up for resurfacing. Thanks to voters approving the renewal of Issue 2 earlier this month, projects like these are possible.
“If we want to keep our roads in good condition, we have to make repairs to them and we have to maintain them. Our budget is not very good in our particular county. So, without those Issue 2 funds, we don’t have the budget to do it. But, with these Issue 2 funds, we’re able to do 15 miles this year. We’d like to do 20 to 25 or even 30,” Eicher said.
While the bids are in, work can’t begin until after July 1st, when funds become available.
Roads set for resurfacing include:
Dresden Road, Marne Road, Shannon Road, John Glenn School Road, Old River Road, Norwich Drive, Potts Lane, Front Street in Philo, Main Street in Norwich, Sundale Road, Coldspring Road, Crestway Drive, Norcross Road, Fernbank Road, Stonington Way, Summerwood Court, East Newman Street, and Chapel Hill Road.
