Muskingum County Renews Tornado Siren Contract to Ensure Public Safety
ZANESVILLE, OH – As tornado season ramps up, Muskingum County is making sure safety comes first, and that everyone can hear it loud and clear.
The Muskingum County Emergency Management Agency met with county commissioners on June 5th to renew their annual tornado siren contract. The contract covers inspection, maintenance, and repairs for all sirens across Muskingum County.
“We came to talk to the commissioners this morning about renewing our siren contract with Commercial Electronics that maintains the sirens so that if we have any issues with one not going off, then they respond and take care of the issue. We do have a portable siren so if there’s something they can’t fix, we can pull the portable siren to that location while it’s being repaired,” EMA Director Jeff Jadwin said.
The county is home to 49 sirens, which play a vital role in alerting residents during severe weather. The newly approved agreement ensures all sirens remain in top working condition throughout the year.
“They approved the contract; they’ve signed off on their portion of the contract. So, I’ll get signatures from the Commercial Electronics to renew the contract. It’s effective July first through June 30th of next year,” Jadwin said.
The sirens are tested every Wednesday at noon through October as part of ongoing preparedness efforts.
