Spring Pasture Management Event to Aid Farmers
ZANESVILLE, OH –Spring is here, and after last year’s drought, keeping pastures healthy is more important than ever.
The Muskingum Soil & Water Conservation District is hosting an event to help farmers prepare. The Spring Pasture Management Event is set for this Thursday and will feature Clifton Martin, an educator specializing in agriculture and natural resources from the Muskingum County OSU Extension Office.
“This event is aimed at anybody who has livestock and pasture. I know last year’s drought took a beating on a lot of pastures around here. People kept their livestock on the pastures too long, and they took them down pretty short. So, how can we revive them? So, anybody who has livestock and dealt with the drought last year probably needs some pasture management,” said Melissa Devore, Ag Resource Specialist, Muskingum Soil and Water Conservation District.
The session will cover tips on how to improve pastures for the summer months and what steps can be taken to recoup them for next year.
“What can be done? What can we do to our pastures now to help improve them for this summer, or do we need to wait until the fall to recoup them for next year? So, it might be a long process, and it might not happen overnight. But there are several steps that can be taken,” Devore said.
The event begins at 6:30 p.m. and will take place at the Rural Service Building, located at 225 Underwood Street in Zanesville. For more information, visit Muskingum Soil and Water Conservation District – MSWCD – Ohio
