Muskingum welcomes 4-2 Ohio Northern to New Concord this week

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Muskingum (1-5, 0-5) football will have to move past a heartbreaking week six loss as they welcome Ohio Northern (4-2, 3-2) to town this week.
The Polar Bears have won back-to-back games, including an overtime thriller over John Carroll last week. Their two losses on the season came to Heidleberg and Mount Union. In the Mount game they held the Purple Raiders to their lowest score of the year – 43 points.
Muskie head coach Al Logan knows that the Polar Bears are dangerous offensively. Their sophomore running back, Christiaan Williams, has ran for a total of 619 yards in their last two games. That includes a school single game record of 407 rushing yards in the Capital game.
“Their tailbak and their quarterback (Will Freed) are about as good as you get at this level. Their tailback the last two weeks rushed for 600 yards and their quarterback has thrown for a little over 600 yards so they are moving the ball and putting some points up. They’re the hot team in our conference right now,” said Logan.
Saturday’s matchup will be one between the two longest tenured coaches in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Dean Paul has been at Ohio Northern since 2004. Al Logan has been the head coach in New Concord for the last 11 years.
“I’m a little older but he’s (Paul) been there a little longer. He does such a great job up there. His kids do a great job. You can see his teams get progressively better as the year goes along and that’s due to him, his coaches, and the kids he has in his program,” said Logan.
This will be the 55th meeting between Ohio Northern and Muskingum. ONU holds the all time series lead 28-24-2, and they first met in 1910.
Saturday’s game will kickoff at 1 p.m. from McConagha Stadium.
