MVESC Secures Grant for CDL Training Enhancements at Mid-East

ZANESVILLE, OH – The Muskingum Valley Educational Service Center has been awarded a $250,000 Industry Sector Partnership Grant.
The grant is a part of a larger initiative by the State of Ohio, that awarded $5 million through 26 grants to various programs across the state. The particular grant for MVESC will enhance the new Commercial Driver’s License training program at the Mid-East Career and Technology Centers.
“There’s only 26 of them throughout the state. We are very happy and feel blessed to do that,” MVESC Director Workforce Development, Eastin Lewellen said.
A significant portion of the grant will be used to purchase two CDL training simulators, which will provide students with a realistic training experience as they prepare for real-world driving scenarios.
“This grant is going to help Mid-East provide to their 13 partner schools the ability to not only have the two CDL simulators, which will help them on campus, but it’ll also be able to provide the 13 partner schools with the online portion. Mid-East is going to train teachers at their partner schools to be able to offer the online portion, so when the students turn 18, they’ll go to Mid-East on campus and that’s when they can use the CDL simulators and do their onsite driving to complete their CDL license,” Lewellen said.
MVESC wants to thank the Lieutenant Governor’s Office.
