ZANESVILLE, OH- The National Road may be a bit busier this weekend and that’s because it’s once again yard sale season.

Wednesday kicked off the 4 day event and while there was a bit of rain, the rest of the weekend’s forecast is perfect for treasure hunters.

Jordin Harmer, the Manager of the Convention and Visitors Bureau, says this year marks the 23rd year for the National Road Yard Sales and this event helps to boost the local economy in the short term as well as the long term.

“These folks will travel all weekend long, Wednesday through Sunday, and they are making long trips.” Harmer said. “The National Road is over 800 miles long and spans 6 states, so we have short term economic benefits when these folks are staying at our hotels and visiting our gas stations, restaurants, all of that. Then we have long term benefits, it really puts Muskingum County on the map and makes folks more aware of the destinations and more aware of the communities that might not get as much recognition as they typically get.”

People travel from nearby towns and even over state lines to come and take part in the National Road Yard sales.

Harmer says it’s exciting to have people take time out of their days to come and see what our area has to offer.

“It’s very exciting that folks are treasure hunting and going through Muskingum County,” Harmer explained. “And it’s surprising to me that they go through the whole National Road, but it’s exciting and we’re very excited to support it. We’re glad that the tradition continues, and I look forward to it becoming more [well known].”

Vendors will be out all weekend so pack up the family, take a ride, and see what the National Road has to offer.
