Nelsonville Restaurant Destroyed by Fire

Authorities said a Nelsonville restaurant is completely destroyed by an early morning fire.

The Nelsonville Fire Department was alerted around 1:17 Tuesday morning of a fire at the Coffee Cup Restaurant at 615 West Washington Street.

Firefighters said flames were seen shooting from the rear of the single story building and heavy smoke was coming from the remainder of the structure.

US Route 33 had to be closed to traffic so firefighters could safely operate around the building.

Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control and reopen the roadway just after 4 a.m.

Authorities estimate the damages at $220,000. The cause is under investigation and the State Fire Marshal’s office is expected in Nelsonville later Tuesday morning.

No one was injured. The business is owned by Charlie and Tammy Smith of Nelsonville.
