New Analysis Reports City Roads “Below Average”

As the winter months approach, there is a concern about the condition of our city roads.

Zanesville Public Service Director, Jay Bennett, said our roads are overall in fair condition– that’s according to a new pavement analysis report conducted by the city. The city received a 58 out of 100, which is below average. Now that the report is finalized, Bennett said the city is learning where it needs to make improvements when it comes to maintenance.

“Chip Saunders, the City Engineer, did some work with the community, we brought JG3 Consultants in, and we started working with them, and there was a bench-marking of all of our city streets, they went out and physically inspected and the report was delivered today,” Bennett said.

The city’s overall score doesn’t reflect all streets, as some were rated higher than others; including those that were recently paved. Going forward, Bennett said the city will work with residents and area businesses to create a plan to determine which roads need the most work, and at what cost.

“The next step is to convene a group of residents and businesses who are stakeholders, and educate them on the work that’s been done, educate them on the amount of money that the city receives,” Bennett said. “Educate them on all of those things, and say let’s as a community try to make recommendations to Mayor of Council on what standards we want for our streets,” Bennett said.
