New Eco Center Opens at Salt Fork State Park

LORE CITY, OH – Earth Day got a little brighter with a grand opening that’s all about protecting the planet.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources celebrated Earth Day by cutting the ribbon on the brand-new Eco Discovery Center at Salt Fork State Park. This 3,332-square-foot facility invites visitors to explore Ohio’s natural world through hands-on exhibits, animals, and interactive displays.

“We’re at Salt Fork State Park, the largest state park in the state, and we are opening a brand-new Eco Discovery Center. It’s really exciting. It’s a beautiful contemporary looking building and it’s a place that kids and adults can come to learn more about the park and also learn more about sustainability, appreciating our eco systems, and how we preserve and sustain them,” ODNR Director Mary Mertz said.

The center features terrariums, aquariums, and even a special appearance by Bigfoot, reminding guests to keep their environmental footprint small even with big feet.

“Some interactive elements is there’s all sorts of boards you can lift or sliding panels and jars that teach you about our developing world. There’s a lot of hands-on things you can do. Plus, your guide through this center is Bigfoot. The mythical Bigfoot that has long been celebrated here at Salt Fork State Park joins the group to take them through and explain all the things they’re going to learn while they’re in there,” Mertz said.

The Salt Fork Eco-Discovery Center is now open and ready for visitors of all ages. The center is located at 69007 R-15 Cambridge, Ohio.
