New Genesis Hospital Revealed to Public
The new Genesis facility was open to the public for self-guided tours today.
The 220 million dollar project is nearing completion. COO Alan Burns said it’s a treat to finally see the community’s reaction to a plan so many years in the making.
“What’s extremely gratifying is seeing the reactions of patients, friends, staff members, physicians, board member, everybody seems, there’s a lot of enthusiasm and we’re so excited about the project and what we were able to create here together,” said Burns.
The hospital features emergency department space that exceeds that of both Good Samaritan and Bethesda Hospital’s combined. It also has access to CT on the very same floor to save time and hopefully lives. Although the size of the hospital does decrease the overall space provided by the two former hospitals Burns said they made sure smaller simply meant more efficient.
“We did a lot of looking at data and national trends to make sure that the spaces that we were decreasing that foot print, were the exact spaces that we should and we feel very comfortable,” said Burns.
Saturday June 27 marks move in day for all patients currently at Good Samaritan. The public can expect heavy truck traffic on Maple Avenue and ambulance traffic on Bell Street throughout the day. The Genesis Hospital ER will become fully operational that evening.
