New Leather Shop to join South Zanesville Businesses

Putnam Avenue will see the arrival of a new business. BellaDonna Leather will open their doors May 22.

The leather shop is the product of months of work by Tammy and Don Carnes. The couple has been working toward the opening since December 2014. They haven’t taken out any loans in order to start the business. Owner Tammy Carnes said that the approximately $ 25,000 necessary came out of their own pockets.

"We had a lot of work to do," said Carnes. "We didn’t want to get loans to do it, so we’ve been doing it paycheck by paycheck. He had to actually come in and drop ceilings [and] put up walls. He’s done a lot of work since December. "

The shop will feature more than just leather products. Carnes said the store will offer button repair, and patch sewing. She also hopes to sell one of a kind leather wedding dresses in the future. Carnes said she decided to start the business after seeing the need for leather in the biker community.

"While I was out and about in different clubs with him [Don Carnes] I started hearing from people… the different things they needed," said Carnes. "They wanted good quality leather at a reasonable price and that’s what started it I guess."

The store will officially open May 22 at 9:00 a.m. The grand opening will feature a drawing for a brand new Huffy bike. All who come to the store are eligible to enter and no purchase is necessary.
