New Lex golf earns state tournament berth

D-II BOYS SOUTHEAST DISTRICT GOLF

The New Lexington Panthers fired a team score of 326 to finish runner-up at the D-II Southeast District tournament at Crown Hill Golf Club and qualify for the state tournament.

Junior Kolten Foraker paced the Panthers with a 77, tying for third on the individual leaderboard. Brayden Metzger also broke 80 by firing a 79.

Sheridan’s Heath Knight qualified individually for the state tournament by carding a runner-up individual score of 76. The Generals narrowly missed qualifying as a team, finishing four shots behind the Panthers with a team score of 330.

Piketon won both the team and individual district championships. Steven Zimmerman shot a 73, and the Redstreaks turned in a team score of 324.

D-II GIRLS EAST DISTRICT GOLF

Maysville’s Makyla Lewellen and John Glenn’s Lexi Bubenchik each turned in strong scores at the D-II East District tournament, but the Muskingum Valley League duo was unable to qualify for state.

Lewellen finished runner-up of Minerva’s Jordan Vanmeter with a 79, while Bubenchik finished four shots off the lead with an 82. Vanmeter shot a 78 to represent the district as the lone individual qualifier.

The John Glenn Lady Muskies carded a team score of 399 to finish third behind Garaway (379) and Beaver (384). The Garaway Lady Pirates were sole team to state from the district.
